Winter asks something different of us. It is is not simply the space between what was and what will be. It is a season with its own wisdom, purpose, and power.
There are seasons when life calls us toward movement, creation, and change, and seasons when what is needed is quieter. A time of drawing inward, resting, and tending the foundations beneath our lives rather than reaching toward what comes next.
Cailleach is an ancient Giantess whose stories are found throughout Scotland and Ireland. Associated with mountains and wild places, the shaping of the landscape, and the cycles of winter, death, and renewal, she carries the wisdom of the season when life turns inward.
Cailleach has invited us to meet with her on Sunday, November 1st, at the threshold of Samhain and the beginning of the winter season, an especially auspicious time to gather with this ancient being of winter and the land, the time when she emerges from her Spring & Summer slumber.
During our time together, I will share one of the stories of Cailleach and the wisdom held within it before we journey to meet with her ourselves.
Together, we will explore what is wintering within you now and why it matters. Through journeying with Cailleach, we will listen for what needs to become quiet, what is being strengthened beneath the surface, and what you are being asked to let go of as you enter this season.
The journey itself will be our ritual, an opportunity to experience the wisdom of winter and listen for what this season is asking of you.
